John Tesh Opens Up About His Health Journey and Recent Update

John Tesh Shares Update on His Long Battle With Prostate Cancer

A Life-Changing Diagnosis

Television personality and former Entertainment Tonight host John Tesh has spoken publicly about his ongoing experience with prostate cancer. Now 73, Tesh reflected on the moment his life changed after receiving a serious diagnosis in 2015.

At the time, doctors informed him that he had stage 3 prostate cancer. The news was unexpected and introduced a period of uncertainty as medical teams worked to understand the extent of the illness and determine possible treatment options.

Tesh later revealed that he had been given a limited life expectancy during the early stages of the diagnosis. Despite that difficult outlook, he has continued treatment and remains focused on managing the condition.

Continuing Treatment Over the Years

More than a decade after his diagnosis, Tesh recently shared an update on his health while speaking in a new interview.

“I was given 18 months to live. So, I’ve been fighting cancer successfully, still fighting it,” he told PageSix. “It’s still under treatment, on and off.”

According to Tesh, the form of prostate cancer he developed is considered rare. Over time, the disease became metastatic, meaning it spread beyond its original location.

Even with these developments, doctors have been able to monitor and manage the condition through ongoing medical care.

Tesh explained that while he is not currently in remission, physicians describe the condition as stable.

Managing the Condition With Ongoing Care

Throughout his treatment journey, doctors have used a strategy designed to manage the disease over time. This approach involves periods of treatment followed by monitoring phases before therapy resumes again.

“They will let it grow for a little bit and then get me back on treatment, back and forth. It’s called pulsing, and it’s scary until you get used to it because it’s like, ‘Why am I living with cancer?’ ” he told Page Six.

The approach allows doctors to respond to changes in the disease while balancing treatment and recovery periods.

For Tesh, adjusting to this cycle of care required patience and trust in the medical professionals overseeing his treatment.

Seeking Specialized Medical Care

As doctors continued evaluating the illness, further imaging provided additional insight into the condition.

An MRI performed in 2017 revealed that the cancer had spread to lymph nodes in the pelvic area. The update came after Tesh had already undergone a prostatectomy, a surgical procedure intended to remove the prostate gland.

At that time, he had believed the cancer had been successfully removed. The new information led to further treatment and consultation with specialists.

Tesh eventually sought care at UT MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, a medical facility known for its focus on cancer treatment and research.

The Role of Family Support

Throughout the experience, Tesh has repeatedly emphasized the importance of family support during difficult moments.

His wife, actress Connie Sellecca, played a central role in helping him find additional medical guidance when they were searching for answers.

In a previous interview, Tesh explained that Sellecca reached out to longtime acquaintances who had connections to the MD Anderson center.

“She had met [these two friends] in New York when she was a model, like 52 years ago, and she kept in touch with them and so when I was at my wits’ end and couldn’t find the right treatment for this very rare form of prostate cancer, she contacted them and they said, ‘You gotta come here to MD Anderson,’ ” Tesh told People.

The recommendation helped guide the couple toward specialists who had experience treating the specific form of prostate cancer he was facing.

Gratitude for Continued Progress

Reflecting on his health journey, Tesh has often spoken about the importance of gratitude and perseverance.

“I shouldn’t even be alive now,” he said during the interview with People. “I’m really grateful. This is a great place right now – this minute to be grateful.”

His comments highlight how significant the progress has been since the initial diagnosis.

Advances in treatment options, combined with ongoing monitoring, have allowed him to continue managing the illness while maintaining an active life.

Recognizing the Impact of Advocacy

Tesh has also credited his wife with playing an important role in supporting him throughout the process.

Family advocacy can be a crucial factor for individuals navigating complex medical decisions.

“Without my wife Connie, who has been my advocate over the years, I wouldn’t be talking,” Tesh told PageSix. “I’d be dead. I would have been dead in 2015.”

For Tesh, her persistence and dedication helped ensure that he received specialized medical attention and continued care.

A Message of Resilience

John Tesh’s story reflects the challenges many people face when navigating long-term health conditions.

His experience also highlights how medical care, family support, and personal determination can play important roles in managing serious illnesses.

More than ten years after receiving a difficult diagnosis, Tesh continues to share updates about his health journey and the treatments that help him maintain stability.

His willingness to speak openly about his experience has helped raise awareness about prostate cancer and the importance of seeking appropriate medical guidance.

For many listeners who followed his work on television and in music, his story represents resilience and the value of continued hope during challenging circumstances.
