Mom and Daughter Pass Away Just 10 Hours Apart — Family Reveals Their Final Wish

Mother and Daughter Die From Cancer Just 10 Hours Apart After Making One Heartbreaking Request

Cibele Marchis, 28, and Her Mother, Maria Elisabete Nogueira, 56, Were Being Treated in Different Hospitals When Their Family Suffered Two Devastating Losses Within Hours

A family in Brazil has been left grieving after a mother and daughter who were both battling cancer died just ten hours apart.

Cibele Marchis was only 28 years old.

Her mother, Maria Elisabete Nogueira, was 56.

Both women had been dealing with serious cancer diagnoses, but during their final hours they were being cared for at different hospitals.

Cibele died at 4 p.m. on September 24 in Mogi Guaçu, in the Brazilian state of São Paulo.

Approximately ten hours later, at around 2 a.m. on September 25, Maria also died.

But one particularly heartbreaking detail has emerged about their final wishes.

They Had Made a Request About What Should Happen If One Died First

Before their deaths, Cibele and Maria had apparently discussed the possibility that one of them might die before the other.

They made a special request to their relatives.

Neither woman wanted to be told if the other died while they were apart.

That wish ultimately became reality.

When Cibele died on September 24, her mother was still alive and receiving treatment elsewhere.

Maria was not told that her daughter had died.

Ten hours later, Maria also passed away.

“Neither of Them Wanted to See the Other Die”

Cibele’s cousin, Rowilson Leandro da Costa, described the agreement the mother and daughter had made.

“Neither of them wanted to see the other die,”

He explained that the two women had spoken about the possibility before their deaths.

“They even talked about it, sometimes jokingly, sometimes seriously — and it happened. Neither of them knew about the other’s death. It’s truly astonishing.”

The circumstances meant that Maria died without knowing that her daughter had passed away only hours earlier.

For their relatives, two separate battles with cancer had ended in an extraordinarily short period of time.

Cibele’s Father Was Left Grieving His Wife and Daughter

The deaths also brought a devastating change to the life of Cibele’s father.

Within approximately ten hours, he had lost both his daughter and his wife.

Rowilson described what that meant for him.

“He lost his family. To come home and find no one there anymore – it’s sad, difficult,”

Instead of mourning one family member while receiving support from another, he was suddenly facing the deaths of both women.

The family was left attempting to process two losses almost simultaneously.

Cibele Had Previously Spoken About Her Cancer Diagnosis

Cibele had publicly discussed her illness before her death.

In an Instagram post from 2025, she explained that she had been diagnosed with a rare form of adrenal cancer.

She described the difficult journey that eventually led doctors to discover the illness.

“A year ago, I discovered that I had a rare adrenal cancer — a 10 cm tumor that had already taken over my kidney.

“Getting to the diagnosis was a long road. I could feel that something was wrong, but none of the tests showed why. Even so, I never ignored what I was feeling… Not long afterward, kidney pain led me to get a CT scan, and there was the tumor.”

Her words offered a glimpse into what she had experienced before receiving the diagnosis.

She Said She Knew Something Was Wrong

Cibele’s account described a period in which she could sense that something was not right even though earlier testing had not provided an explanation.

Eventually, kidney pain led to a CT scan.

That examination revealed the tumor.

She described it as measuring 10 centimeters and said it had already affected her kidney.

The diagnosis marked the beginning of a difficult period for Cibele and those closest to her.

But her family would soon face another serious diagnosis.

Then Her Mother Was Diagnosed With Cancer

Approximately one year after Cibele received her diagnosis, Maria Elisabete was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

Suddenly, a family already dealing with one serious illness was confronting another.

Mother and daughter were now both facing cancer.

Details about Maria’s illness and the treatment she underwent have not been widely reported.

What is known from the family’s account is that both women continued their respective battles until September.

During their final hours, however, they were no longer physically together.

They Spent Their Final Hours in Different Hospitals

Cibele and Maria were receiving care in separate hospitals as their conditions worsened.

That separation made the request they had previously discussed especially significant.

Neither wanted to learn that the other had died.

Cibele was the first to pass away.

She died at 4 p.m. on September 24.

Her mother remained alive for another ten hours.

In accordance with their wishes, Maria was not informed of her daughter’s death.

At approximately 2 a.m. the following morning, Maria died as well.

The Family Had Barely Experienced One Loss Before Facing Another

The timing left little opportunity for relatives to begin processing Cibele’s death before Maria also passed away.

What had been two simultaneous cancer battles became two deaths within the same night.

The family’s grief was therefore intertwined from the beginning.

The mother and daughter had faced their illnesses alongside one another, even though their final medical care took place separately.

Their earlier conversations about death also took on new significance after what happened.

They had considered a painful possibility that eventually unfolded almost exactly as they had feared.

Mother and Daughter Were Laid to Rest Together

Although Cibele and Maria spent their final hours apart, their family ultimately brought them together for their farewell.

The mother and daughter’s funerals were held in the same ceremony.

After two separate illnesses and two deaths only hours apart, relatives were faced with saying goodbye to both women at once.

The joint ceremony reflected how closely their stories had become connected.

They had faced cancer during the same period.

They had discussed what they wanted if one of them died first.

And ultimately, neither woman learned that the other had passed away.

Their Final Request Became a Painful Part of Their Family’s Story

Cibele and Maria could not have known exactly how closely their deaths would occur.

Yet they had already spoken about one of the most difficult possibilities their family might face.

Neither wanted to experience the news of losing the other.

That request was honored when Cibele died first.

Maria passed away ten hours later without being told what had happened.

Their relatives were then left with the extraordinary task of grieving a 28-year-old daughter and her 56-year-old mother at virtually the same time.

After facing cancer side by side, Cibele Marchis and Maria Elisabete Nogueira were ultimately laid to rest together, leaving their family to remember two lives connected not only by their relationship as mother and daughter, but also by the final wish they had shared.
