Internet praises man for 360lb weight loss

From 585 Pounds to a New Life: How Daily Steps Helped Cole Prochaska Transform His Health

A Turning Point After Years of Struggle

Only four years ago, Cole Prochaska says he “weighed as much as three men.” Today, the 41-year-old proudly describes himself as the size of “one person” after shedding hundreds of pounds through consistent walking and disciplined lifestyle changes.

In 2021, the Florida resident did not know his exact weight. The only certainty was that it exceeded 585 pounds, which was the highest number his scale could display.

Prochaska explains that he had struggled with his weight for most of his life. He recalls being heavy as early as six years old and living a largely sedentary lifestyle filled with frequent overeating.

His daily habits reflected that pattern. A typical day could include several bags of chips and a 12-pack of soda. Fast food outings often meant consuming five cheeseburgers or finishing an entire pizza “easy.”

He estimates that he was consuming around 5,000 calories each day.

“I felt pretty bad,” Prochaska said. “I would always put on a happy exterior because that’s what a lot of big people do. But I was a pretty lonely person. You don’t want to go to anywhere because you don’t want to have to worry about fitting in the chairs and worry about having to walk very far, what you’re going to wear.”

Even basic physical activity left him breathless, making exercise feel nearly impossible.

Motivation Born From Personal Loss

As a seven-year relationship began to unravel, Prochaska confronted the reality of his situation. He realized that his lifestyle had contributed not only to his declining health but also to his personal struggles.

“I knew she had lost respect for me because I was just a really big person and didn’t do anything, and I wasn’t going anywhere in life where I needed to go,” Prochaska says.

In that painful moment, he made a decision that would ultimately redefine his life.

“I was trying to save the relationship. I didn’t save the relationship, but I saved myself.”

That shift in mindset marked the beginning of a profound transformation.

Step by Step Toward Change

His journey did not begin with an extreme diet or intense workout routine. It started with a simple commitment to walk.

In the beginning, even a couple of blocks felt challenging. Still, he made a promise to himself to keep moving, no matter how small the progress.

Day after day, he pushed slightly further. What began as short, difficult walks gradually evolved into a steady routine that became the foundation of his weight loss.

He adopted a personal rule: accountability above all else.

“I hold myself accountable! It’s the only way to take control of your life,” he tweets in a post about refusing to back out of a walk due to inclement weather.

Consistency became his greatest ally. Every single day, regardless of circumstances, he commits to reaching at least 10,000 steps.

Walking became more than exercise. It symbolized discipline, determination, and self-respect.

Rebuilding His Relationship With Food

Physical movement was only part of the transformation. Prochaska also dramatically changed his eating habits.

He eliminated sweets, chips, snacks, and sugary drinks from his daily routine. Water replaced soda, and he began carefully tracking his calorie intake to ensure he remained on course.

Rather than relying on empty carbohydrates, he focused on a high-protein approach that helped maintain energy and build muscle as his body adapted to weight loss.

The change required more than willpower. It demanded a complete mental reset.

“It was just me making up my mind that this is it, it’s going to be a life change,” he says, adding that he then leveled up with workouts at the gym. “I feel so great.”

As his stamina improved, so did his confidence. The gym became an extension of the work he had already started on the pavement.

Remarkable Results — and New Challenges

By 2023, Prochaska had lost approximately 360 pounds. The transformation was undeniable, both physically and emotionally.

Yet even after reaching his target weight, he struggled with a new reality: excess skin left behind after the dramatic loss.

Although his health had improved significantly, he admitted feeling hesitant about revealing his new body publicly.

“Three to One. I once weighed as much as 3 men and now, I am one person…It’s very hard to share a shirtless picture but I’ve come so far! I know it is hard for some of you to look at,” Prochaska writes on the GoFundMe campaign organized to support his pricey skin removal surgeries in California.

For him, the loose skin represents a lingering barrier between progress and completion.

“My weight goal has been reached but my life is not complete, and it will not be complete until I can get rid of this excess skin. I must tuck extra skin in my pants and still wear loose clothing to conceal the flab…I have never walked on a beach without a shirt on and always avoided pool parties. I’m still trapped. Due to this extra skin,” he explains.

Despite these challenges, he chose transparency over silence, sharing photos and details of his experience to document the full scope of his journey.

Community Support and Encouragement

The online response to Prochaska’s transformation has been overwhelmingly positive. Many supporters have praised not only his weight loss but also his willingness to share the less glamorous aspects of recovery.

“Absolutely inspiring! Good luck on your journey and thank you for this kind of inspiration. I pray for your safe recovering,” writes one generous donor.

Another supporter comments, “You’re a great inspiration to many, Cole. I admire the impressive amount of dedication and sheer perseverance that you employed to get you to this place and then to keep going. Looking forward to seeing you meet your goal here.”

A third person adds, “Cole, the weight loss is awesome…I don’t know how much all that skin weighs…but it has to be a lot. Your knees will love you even more if you lose it, so I hope this little bit helps you meet your goal!”

The crowdfunding effort has raised $81,226 toward a $100,000 goal to cover the cost of the skin removal procedures.

Looking Ahead

Although he has not yet undergone surgery, Prochaska recently experienced another milestone. For the first time in his life, he boarded a plane and traveled to California to consult with a plastic surgeon regarding the procedures.

He hopes that within “three to six months,” he will have his first surgery.

Throughout the process, he continues to document his steps — both literal and figurative — encouraging others to take action in their own lives.

“Keep going, keep walking… You can do it. I’m living proof. Let’s go,” he tweets from California where he’s talking to his followers while strolling the streets.

He has also emphasized that his transformation was achieved without medication or surgical weight-loss procedures.

“Sure ozempic might work, same with gastric bypass or any other surgeries (no hate). I can guarantee that you won’t be as healthy and happy as when you just put your head down and grind,” he shared on X in July 2024.

A Story of Persistence

Prochaska’s journey reflects years of struggle followed by consistent daily effort. What began as a simple decision to walk a few blocks grew into a complete lifestyle overhaul.

The numbers alone are striking: more than 585 pounds at his heaviest, 360 pounds lost by 2023, and tens of thousands of steps walked every week.

Yet beyond the statistics lies a deeper transformation rooted in accountability, resilience, and determination.

From avoiding social settings due to fear of fitting into chairs to traveling across the country for surgical consultations, the changes in his life extend far beyond the scale.

His story continues to resonate with those seeking motivation to begin their own health journeys.

What started with sneakers and daily walks has become a testament to what steady, focused effort can achieve over time.

As he awaits the next phase of surgery and recovery, Prochaska remains committed to the principle that guided him from the start: keep moving forward.
